These files come from an IBM industrial robotic arm control computer from the RPI CATS group
According to IBM website, this system was announced April 7, 1986
After upgrading to newer arms, the old systems becames e-waste and a number of people grabbed them
The original control system was extremely bulky and so I think all of us
built new ones instead of trying to get the original to work
The original control system essentially consisted of a large power electronics box
connected to an industrial IBM rackmount computer (80486 based IIRC)
The computer had some GPIO expansion cards that allowed it to send control signals
